SEOXcellence Web Rankings

SEOXcellence went live on December 16, 2006. The goal of this site is to prove that web optimization can work. I will be using two ranking criteria to show how this sites relevance grows. The first will be Google's page rank. Google ranks pages on a 10-point scale. Of course, reaching a 10 on the scale would be the ultimate goal, but for most websites it's a ridiculous goal to aim for. Based on what I've read, aiming for a rank or at least 3 is pretty good for most people; we're going to shoot for a 4 ranking or better.

The second will be our ranking on Alexa. Alexa seems to show the top 6 million pages out of the entire internet. If you can end up in the top million, for the most part that's pretty good, because it means you at least have a chance to compete with others in the areas you want to do business in. All of the sites related to T. T. Mitchell Consulting, Inc are ranked in the top 500,000, but the goal for this site is going to be to make it into the top 200,000. That would be a very nice jump for one year.

Of course, you don't have to take my word for it. If you use the Google Toolbar, you can check my page rank for yourself. If you use Firefox as your browser, they have a plug-in you can use to not only tell you the Google page rank, but the Alexa rank at the same time.

There is one thing to know about online rankings, though. Sometimes they're not working, and sometimes they work differently from one computer to another. For instance, on one of the sites I monitor, if I use my laptop to check their Google page rank it shows up as nothing, but if I check it on my PC at the same time it shows a rank of 3. I can't explain that, but I live with it. Same with Alexa; sometimes their page is down, and you won't get a ranking at all. Don't worry about it; if you were ranked, unless you were barely in the 6 million, you won't suddenly leave the internet atmosphere.

There will be regular updates, but not scheduled updates. But this should be an interesting experiment.
