Website Grader

Website Grader is a great website that allows you to find out how well your website may be performing in its SEO endeavors.

What you do first is enter your website URL into the first box. In the next box you enter the keyword terms you want to be found by through search engines. In the next box you can enter other websites that do what you do and you'll receive an analysis of how you compare to them. And finally you can give them your email address, though you don't have to, so they can send you a copy of the report. There's also an option to sign up for their newsletter also, but if you don't want it you need to uncheck the box, unless you didn't put in an email address.

I decided to run one of our long time business customer sites through it, just to see what it came up with, and it was pretty illuminating. The first thing it did was give an overall grade of 84 out of 100, which wasn't bad.

Then it gives you an evaluation of your online SEO, where it reads your description, sees if you have a blog (which it gives you more points for) tests your metatags and Hx tags, and your images to see if you've remembered to put "alt" tags in. On the site I had it review, it scored well in all areas except a blog, which the site doesn't have, and its dislike of having any HTML where CSS coding can be used instead. It didn't penalize the site for that, so it's not a big deal.

Next it talks about offline SEO. It tells you how old your site is, and when its registration is up. It tells you what your Google page rank is, as well as how many pages are indexed by Google. You also learn the last time Google indexed your site. It will also tell you what your overall traffic rank is, per Alexa, and how many inbound links you have to your site.

There's lots more information that you may or may consider as important, but you can decide what you'd like to see. Also, if you make any of the changes it recommends, you can run the tool again to see if you move up any. Overall, this is a great informational SEO tool, and you've got to check it out.
